CONJUNCTIVE GROUNDWATER ALLOCATIONS ANNOUNCED FOR BORDER RIVERS

The Department of Natural Resources, Barwon Regional Director, Randall Hart, today announced the groundwater allocations for conjunctive users of groundwater in the Border Rivers Alluvium for the current water year.

Conjunctive licences in the Border Rivers were introduced in 1990 to increase security of supply. They involve pumping additional groundwater when surface water allocations are low.

“The volume of groundwater that each conjunctive licence holder will be able to access is identified in the allocation table on their individual licence," Mr Hart said.

"The volume available for this water year, until 30 September 2006, is related to a surface water availability of 50%.

"The current interim arrangements for the Border Rivers Alluvium will remain unchanged."

Further information on allocations for the ensuing water year in the Border Rivers Alluvium Groundwater Management area, and information on water account provisions can be obtained from the Department of Natural Resources, Barwon Regional Office at 155-157 Marius Street Tamworth on telephone (02) 6764 5900.
