Media Release - Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Dubbo: 18 July 2005 BROKEN HILL WATER VOLUME REACHES THE MARK It is predicted the current flow in the Barwon-Darling river system will secure the Broken Hill town water volume requirements for the next 21 months.
Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources (DIPNR) Regional Director, Far West Region, Geoff Wise, today made his prediction based on known river flow volumes along the river system from Wilcannia to Bourke.
“The flow is expected to peak at Brewarrina today, with only a steady fall occurring after the peak,” said Mr Wise.
The majority of flow is expected to arrive at Menindee by the end August 2005.
“As a consequence, the controls on irrigation extractions along the river are being kept in place, but extended to 16 days of access for B class licence holders and 9 days for C class,” Mr Wise said.
