Media Release - Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Deniliquin: 15 July 2005 NO IMPROVEMENT IN GENERAL SECURITY ALLOCATIONS FOR NSW MURRAY VALLEY IRRIGATORS
Regional Director of the NSW Department of Infrastructure Planning and Natural Resources, David Harriss, announced today that following the review of water availability to the end of June, general security allocations for NSW Murray Valley irrigators would remain at 0 percent of entitlement.
Inflows into River Murray storages and projected minimum inflows for the remainder of the season are not yet sufficient allow for an increase in general security water allocations.
Assessment of the potential for allocations to increase has been carried out for a range of climate conditions and assumes that inflows occurring after allocations have reached 30% would be used to payback water reallocated to irrigators from the Barmah Millewa Forest environmental account.
- There are 9 chances in 10 of allocations of 10% by the end of Oct, 18% by the end of February and 27% by the end of May. - There are 3 chances in 4 of allocations of 18% by the end of Oct, 33% by the end of February and 40% by the end of May. - There is 1 chance in 2 of allocations of 32% by the end of Oct, 100% by the end of February.
These possibilities of improvement are indicative only.
There is sufficient water available to meet 100% of entitlement for town water supply and domestic and stock licences, 97% of entitlement for other high security users and 100% of entitlement for supplementary licences during periods of announced supplementary water.
In the Lower Darling valley there is sufficient water to meet 100% of town water, domestic and stock and high security entitlements, 50% of entitlement for general security licences and 100% of entitlement for supplementary licences during periods of announced supplementary water.
