Media Release - Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Deniliquin: 15 August 2005 INCREASE IN ALLOCATION FOR MURRUMBIDGEE GENERAL SECURITY WATER USERS
Regional Director of the NSW Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources David Harriss today announced that the general security allocation for Murrumbidgee water users has increases to 21 % for the full season with 18% being available by the end of February.
Mr Harriss said that recent rainfall had increased the volumes in Murrumbidgee Valley water storages, and additional water was available for allocation as a result of the revision of the assessment of carry over from last year.
Burrinjuck Dam is currently storing 41 % of capacity and Blowering 33 % compared to 40 and 13 percent respectively at this time last year.
There is currently sufficient water available to meet 100% of entitlement for town water supply and domestic and stock licences, 95% of entitlement for other high security users.
Mr Harriss said that the catchment in a reasonably wet condition and there is now significant probability that general security allocation will increases:
- There are 9 chances in 10 that the allocation will increase to 29% by the end of October, 37% by the end of February and 44% by the end of May. - There are 3 chances in 4 that the allocation will increase to 37% by the end of October, 50% by the end of February and 56% by the end of May. - There is 1 chance in 2 that the allocation will increase to 50% by the end of October, 72% by the end of February and 76% by the end of May.
