Media Release - Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Deniliquin: 1 September 2005 IMPROVEMENT IN MURRUMBIDGEE GENERAL SECURITY WATER ALLOCATION Regional Director of the NSW Department of Natural Resources David Harriss today announced that the general security allocation for Murrumbidgee water users has increased to 26% for the full season with 20% being available by the end of February.
Mr Harriss said that recent rainfall had provided an increase in the volumes in Murrumbidgee Valley water storages, and downstream tributary flows have contributed water to offset river transmission losses that would otherwise have had to come out of storage.
The recent rainfall has also provided good flows into the Lowbidgee floodplain area that has not received water for some time. This will provide significant environmental benefit as well as access to water users in that area.
There is currently sufficient water available to meet 100% of entitlement for town water supply and domestic and stock licences, 95% of entitlement for other high security users.
