Media Release - Department of Infrastructure, Planning and Natural Resources Deniliquin: 30 September 2005 INCREASE IN ALLOCATIONS FOR MURRUMBIDGEE GENERAL SECURITY WATER USERS Regional Director of the NSW Department of Natural Resources Davis Harriss today announced that the general security allocation level for Murrumbidgee general security users increases to 37 percent for the full season with 30 percent being available by the end of February.
He said that most of the increase resulted from rainfall in the past fortnight, which unfortunately had not been as high as that which has fallen further south in the Murray Catchment.
Burrinjuck Dam is now storing 58 percent of capacity and Blowering 55 percent. Inflows from Wednesday night’s rain have not been assessed. Any additional allocation will be announced as soon as possible.
Mr Harriss said that all irrigators had now had some access to supplementary flows and access is still available downstream of Carrathool. With the catchment now being wet, there was a high chance of increases in the near future.
