Media Release - Ministers Office Sydney: 20 June 2005 MINISTER ANNOUNCES ADDITIONAL MURRUMBIDGEE CMA BOARD MEMBERS Natural Resources Minister, Craig Knowles today announced the appointment of two additional Board members to the Murrumbidgee Catchment Management Authority.
“I congratulate Michael Beckwith from Hay and Joe Burns from Leeton on their appointment to the Murrumbidgee CMA” said Minister Knowles.
“I am very impressed with the skills and experience that they bring to the CMA, which complements the balance and qualities of the existing Board.
“They will join Claudia Nye, Dick Thompson, Mike Schultz, Flo Grant and the Chairperson, Lee O’Brien, in working with the catchment community in the strategic management of natural resources.
“Their ongoing challenge, which will not always be easy, is to make the CMA a success by delivering simpler and more efficient natural resource management in partnership with the local community.
The CMA has been investing significant funds into local projects to enhance natural resources. Over $1 million has been directed to rehabilitation and protection of vegetation along 560 km of streambank.
The CMA is playing a role in over $17 million of projects targeting natural resource management, along with other stakeholders in the catchment.
The CMA Board is responsible and accountable for the creation and implementation of catchment action plans, associated investment strategies and corporate governance
“Funded by the State and Commonwealth Governments, I am confident that the CMA will continue to meet the needs of the catchment community to achieve the best natural resource outcomes.” said Minister Knowles.
